We Walked for Breast Cancer.
It was about time I got my hands into some community service again.
This week at the College of Business has been all about Breast Cancer Awareness. My fellow pledges and I attended our weekly chapter meeting and wore pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we all talked about our personal experiences with family and the disease. It seems that nowadays, almost anybody can come up with a way they’ve been personally impacted by it. It brings us closer together when we remember those who are fighting, those who have fought, those who have survived, and those who have lost the battle.
Attending the Making Strides of Orlando this past Saturday was one of those times exactly. I walked with what must have been thousands of participants who both donated and walked against Breast Cancer, and the feeling was indescribable. Laughing with strangers, my fellow pledges, and the brothers of Delta Sigma Pi, I felt efficacious. Like I was making a real impact. Community Service is part of our duty as students and members of the world of business. While we put value into our community and profit in return, we also have to put that passion into creating value that doesn’t benefit us directly. We foster the passion for growth and success on all levels in order to be more complete, whole businesspeople.
I’m looking forward to what next year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month will be like for me. I’ll be a different person then, but I know I’ll be walking all the same.
